In memoriam, G.A. Cohen

Philosopher G.A. Cohen passed away yesterday.  I will leave it to Marc to write more about the man and his profound impact on the field of political philosophy, but wanted to say a few words.

Many people know Cohen as one of the founders of Analytical Marxism, others know him as one of the top commentators on liberalism.

I was fortunate to know him as a teacher.  With Marc and Jake, I had the rare opportunity to study with Professor Cohen during one of his last years at the University of Oxford.  He was a man truly energized by teaching and he had an endearingly high opinion of his own wit.

I can also say that he let the “real world” challenge and penetrate his rigorous philosophical approach.  He will be missed.
